BROOKLYN COULDN’T GET enough of Wesley. The day had been so stressful, and after their absolutely stupid fight, his arms were a welcome haven from her worries. She didn’t know what the future held for them, but in that moment, she didn’t need to.

They kissed, and kissed, and kissed that night. She was so grateful that he was satisfied with just kissing her, because she wasn’t sure if she would have told him no if he tried for more. She’d never felt anything like what was coursing through her while his mouth was on hers.

She had been aware enough to suggest that they move out of the bedroom, and they ended up on the couch watching a movie, cuddling, and kissing for the rest of the evening. Wesley seemed to have forgotten about the pressing work he’d had planned to do that night, and it was totally fine with her.

She wasn’t sure what time it was when they both drifted off to sleep with the TV still on, but neither of them woke up very early. In fact, Brooklyn felt like she’d been sleeping for a hundred hours when she finally woke to someone knocking on the door.

“Hello?”

Brooklyn opened one sleepy eye to try to see who was talking.

“Well, well, well. If it isn’t the two love birds.”

Brooklyn jumped to her feet when she saw that the person who’d just come into Wesley’s house was Gabby. She looked down to her vacant place on the couch, and saw that Wesley was just stirring.

Gabby had definitely seen the two of them asleep on the couch together. And Brooklyn suddenly wanted to crawl into a hole and die. Why? Why is Gabby here? Why did she just walk in?

“What are you doing here?” Brooklyn asked.

“Well, after I told Mr. Beem about the way Wesley left the office yesterday, he was worried that you may not have come back out here. He sent me to check up on Wesley and make sure he was being watched,” Gabby explained.

Wesley sat up and cleared his throat. “You can’t just walk into my house,” he said.

“I’m so sorry. The door wasn’t locked, and I was worried something was wrong when no one answered. I knocked several times,” Gabby said.

Brooklyn crossed her arms. “Everything’s fine, so you should leave.”

Gabby looked at Wesley, then back at Brooklyn. “Clearly,” she said sarcastically.

“I’m serious. You don’t need to be here,” Brooklyn said.

“It looks like maybe I do. Do both of you need a chaperone?” Gabby had the biggest smirk on her face.

Brooklyn felt like crying. “Please don’t mention this to Mr. Beem. I already talked to him. He knows how I feel about Wesley. Please just tell him that I was here when you came to check,” Brooklyn begged.

Gabby rolled her eyes and looked at Wesley. “You’re lucky I care about your case. I won’t say anything about this, but not because of Brooklyn.” She turned around and walked out of the house, leaving the door open behind her.

“I can’t believe she just walked in like that,” Wesley said, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
